Martyn Barr - an award-winning educational writer and marketing consultant - established Out of the Box Publishing Limited in 2009 to produce and market his own titles.

His first book - The Young Person's History Guide to Canterbury - was published to critical acclaim and, in August 2010, went on to top the local Waterstones book store's best seller chart.

Martyn's book on Canterbury Cathedral’s stained glass windows - Paintings in Light - was named runner-up in the children’s publication category in the National Association for Cultural Enterprises 2014 Awards. Both The Young Person’s History Guide to Canterbury and To Be A Bee were nominated for a Canterbury Culture Award in the Excellence category.

An experienced journalist, designer and public relations consultant, Martyn began his PR career at the London Borough of Southwark before moving on to the Government Information Service. There he was responsible for several multi-million-pound information programmes, including the high profile teenage anti-heroin campaign.

He relocated to Kent in 1988 to join a local PR and crisis management company. Nine years later Martyn established his own consultancy, Impact PR & Design Limited. He now works for clients across a broad range of industry sectors, with extensive experience in retail centre marketing and commercial development.

Martyn has been a Member of the Chartered Institute of Public Relations since 1986. He is now based in beautiful North Norfolk.
